Candidates Profiles for Presidentiables and Vice Presidentiables

The PYAP Imus Chapter would like to share this informative article from Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan which may be of help to the voting public in choosing the most qualified candidates for the country's two highest positions.

Candidates Profiles for Presidentiables and Vice Presidentiables

CONTEXT:

It is unfortunate that the electoral process in the Philippines is still far from the ideal. In reality, election continues to be based on personalities rather than on political platform and on common-good-agenda that will truly serve our 90 million people. Year in and year out, we hear the word “democracy” so often referred to and the many beautiful promises of equality and prosperity coming from the mouth of politicians. But we continue to see a sad story of many unfulfilled promises. Democracy’s true potential in the Philippines remains dormant and unrealized, hampered by political clans whom we have given the power to intimidate, to coerce and to terrorize our people.

It seems like we are trapped in a vicious political cycle. But if we are looking for a way out, we need not look far. In this time and age, a proper access to credible and relevant information can become our source of hope once again. Many of our voters have been accustomed to choose candidates whom they know by name rather than by their background, stand on issues, platform and track record.

GOAL:

In this context, SLB prepared a compilation of profiles of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the May 10, 2010 national elections. These profiles contain basic information, individual track record and stand on crucial issues and advocacies.

The profiles have been prepared in line with the program called GABAY HALALAN. It is a text and call center that will run from April 15, 2010 to May 15, 2010. Check Gabay Halalan e-Flyer for details. The main objective of this program is to help the more that 50 million voters through an effective dissemination of unbiased, free, credible and relevant information pertaining to elections.

SLB encourages the greater dissemination, translation, and copying of these materials for non-commercial use and with appropriate credit given to SLB.
